Bismillāh ir Raḥmān ir Raḥīm

In the name of God the Compassionate the Merciful

There have been many worthy efforts at casting versions of the Qur’ān into languages other than Arabic.

This is an effort to convey the direct message of the original Arabic Qur’ān as clearly as possible in English.

It is the intention that this version most closely preserve the spare, complex beauty of the original recitation,

while still being easily understood in English, insha’Allāh.

For over nineteen years I have been a student of Islām and the Arabic language at schools and universities, while living in

several Muslim countries and the U.S., as well as privately with a succession of scholars.  I have been blessed with excellent

teachers and tutors who continue to guide me in the study of the grammar and vocabulary of Qur’ānic Arabic, and in a deepening

understanding of the ayāt al qur’ān al karīm, of salama, ‘imān, tawḥeed, tawakkul, and taqwā.  In 2008 I was blessed to make the ḥajj.

It has been ten years since I first attempted to cast an English version of an ayat al Qur’ān.  It was a daunting prospect then, and it remains

a challenge now, though it is a welcome one.  Parts of these versions were done for khutba I was asked to give by our ummah two years ago.

The intent is to complete work on all 114 sūrāt within the next two years, by the end of Ramaān 1444, if God grants me the breath

and the ability to do so, and to make these English versions freely available digitally and in print without cost insha'Allāh.
